Akrap regards porcelain more than just “a material”. Porcelain captures high material performance, elegance, social status and a poetic presence. Its rigidness contrasts its fragility. This delicate material influenced global history over the course of centuries however kept its appeal throughout time. Akrap brings a modern context to using porcelain and offers a bridge between archaic to current times using it in an innovative way. The majority of her works are produced in small series. Based on identical origin, each ‘cloned’ object is then manipulated individually to broaden its meaning and its perception.
